Week 8 Central Washington Football Roundup: Moses Lake Captures CBBN Title

4A CBBN

  • Moses Lake 40, Eastmont 20
  • Wenatchee 49, Eisenhower 14
  • Davis 36, Sunnyside 21
  • West Valley 15, Othello 14

The highly anticipated league championship game between Eastmont and Moses Lake lived up to the hype as an incredibly physical battle—until the Mavericks pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a 40-20 victory and their third consecutive CBBN championship. Moses Lake running back Elijah Burns was simply unstoppable, rushing for 271 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries. Eastmont quarterback Peyton Zelinski played admirably in the loss, especially considering he had very little ground game to lean on against Moses Lake’s dominant defensive front.

Meanwhile, it was business as usual for the Wenatchee passing attack in their blowout over Eisenhower. Panther quarterback Rigo Garcia spent the night dropping bombs to his star trio of Chase Ballew, Micah Knell, and Griffin Butler, all three of whom hauled in touchdown passes. The Panthers ignited the scoring in the first quarter with a beautiful 29-yard strike that Garcia dropped perfectly into Knell’s hands in the back of the endzone. With the defense forcing multiple turnovers, Wenatchee built a massive 49-8 lead by halftime before taking their foot off the gas.

Elsewhere in the league, Davis finally snapped their four-game losing streak with a well-deserved 36-21 win over Sunnyside. Considering three of their losses are by a combined 4 points, it was a hard-earned second victory of the season for the Pirates. Things won’t get any easier for Sunnyside as they prepare to host 3A juggernaut Federal Way in their regular-season finale. Finally, West Valley continued their impressive mid-season turnaround by edging out Othello 15-14. After an 0-3 start, the Rams are now 4-1 in their last five contests and will host the Wenatchee Panthers this coming Friday to close out their regular season.
