Justin Brennan: Loyalty Pays Off for CWU’s Fifth-Year Quarterback
In an era of college football where the transfer portal dominates the headlines, true loyalty is a rare commodity. For Central Washington Wildcats quarterback Justin Brennan, the journey to the starting job was anything but instantaneous. It was a rigorous test of preparation, patience, and unwavering dedication to the program.
A local Washington product, Justin Brennan hails from University Place and was a standout player at Lakes High School in Lakewood. When he arrived at Central Washington, he found himself buried on the depth chart. As highlighted in the graphic above, Justin Brennan endured a long wait, including a 2025 season where he took zero offensive snaps after four years of preparation. While many players would have packed their bags to seek immediate playing time elsewhere, he chose to stay in Ellensburg, trusting the process and continuing to put in the grueling behind-the-scenes work.
That perseverance finally culminated in a spectacular breakout performance during his fifth and final year. On September 19, 2026, Justin Brennan stepped onto the field against a formidable conference opponent: the #10 ranked Western Oregon Wolves. Taking the reins of the Wildcats’ offense, he didn’t just manage the game; he completely took it over.
Justin Brennan torched the Wolves’ defense, finishing the game with 314 passing yards on a highly efficient 19-of-26 passing. Most importantly, he delivered four passing touchdowns to lead Central Washington to a thrilling 45-36 “upset” victory. It was a masterful performance that showcased both his arm talent and his deep understanding of the Wildcats’ offensive scheme—a mastery earned through years of studying from the sidelines.
For the Central Washington community, watching a homegrown talent like Justin Brennan succeed on such a big stage is the ultimate reward. His story is a powerful reminder that the pathway of perseverance pays off, and that the journey itself is the story. With him officially seizing the starting job, the Wildcats’ offense is in capable, battle-tested hands for the remainder of the 2026 season as they chase a League Championship.
