Undefeated Wildcats Host 5-1 Panthers in Massive Battle of the Bridges Clash

The wait is finally over. On Friday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m., the Friday night lights will illuminate Wildcat Stadium for the most highly anticipated “Battle of the Bridges” rivalry game in at least a decade.

This year’s Eastmont vs Wenatchee football clash features two heavyweights colliding at the peak of their powers. The Eastmont Wildcats enter the game as an undefeated, well-oiled machine looking to assert their dominance. Coming to them are the 5-1 Wenatchee Panthers, a team wielding an explosive offense that is desperate to snap their long losing streak against their cross-river rivals.

Eastmont: An Undefeated, Well-Oiled Machine

The Wildcats roll into this rivalry game boasting a flawless 6-0 record, and for the vast majority of the season, they have looked virtually unstoppable. Under first year head coach Rory Rosenbach, Eastmont has functioned as a perfectly tuned offensive juggernaut with solid defense.

A major reason for that success is an offensive unit that operates like a well-oiled machine, spearheaded by the steady hand of senior quarterback Peyton Zelinski. When the Wildcats want to control the tempo, they turn to their workhorse senior running back, Javin Britton, who has consistently punished opposing defensive fronts all year. Beyond the backfield, the roster is loaded with difference-makers on both sides of the ball. Key players like fullback Austin Zelinski, versatile playmaker Conley McGinnis, and relentless defensive edge disruptor Donivon Torres have all been instrumental in keeping Eastmont’s perfect season alive.

Eastmont faced a massive road test last week, narrowly surviving a gritty 39-33 dogfight against the West Valley Rams to keep their undefeated streak going. Although the Wildcats struck instantly with an opening-play 66-yard touchdown catch by Austin Zelinski and took an 18-13 lead into halftime, three uncharacteristic offensive turnovers over the course of the game allowed the Rams to stay within striking distance. West Valley seized the second-half momentum by returning the third-quarter kickoff for a touchdown and kept the pressure on with a late scoring pass in the final seconds, but Eastmont successfully recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the thrilling win.

Wenatchee: Explosive and Finally Balanced

On the other sideline, the Wenatchee Panthers are playing some of the best football the program has seen in years. Sitting at 5-1, the Panthers are led by an incredibly explosive passing attack, but in recent weeks, they have evolved into a much more balanced unit by establishing a legitimate, dangerous run game to pair with their solid, turnover-forcing defense.

Coming off a dominant 48-13 home victory over Sunnyside last week, the Panthers showcased exactly why they are such a threat. Senior quarterback Rigo Garcia was dropping dimes all night, perfectly orchestrating an offense that has been throwing all over the field this season. Garcia benefits from a veritable three-headed monster of pass catchers, starting with junior wide receiver Micah Knell, who currently leads the Big 9 in receiving. Opposing secondaries also have to contend with senior Griffin Butler, who sits right behind Nell at second in the league, and junior tight end Chase Ballew, a massive 6-foot-6 playmaker who creates matchup nightmares.

While the passing attack has been their hallmark, the Panthers have actively developed an explosive running game, punishing their opponents on the ground for the second consecutive week with sophomore running backs Alex Haglund and Christian Ward. This emerging offensive balance is backed by a defense and special teams unit that has been stellar all season. Against Sunnyside, these units were relentlessly aggressive, forcing multiple turnovers and ensuring the game was never in doubt. With all three phases of the game clicking simultaneously, Wenatchee is fielding a dangerous roster heading into this rivalry matchup.

A Matchup for the Ages

When these two teams step onto the turf on Friday night, the entire valley will be watching. Can Wenatchee’s balanced, high-flying offense crack the code of Eastmont’s stout defense? And can the Wildcats’ well-oiled machine clean up last week’s turnovers to silence the opposing fans?

This is what Eastmont vs Wenatchee football is all about.
