Gridiron Glory (Week 3): Battle for the Bronze Shoe & Top Central Washington Matchups

The Friday night lights are burning brighter than ever as we head into a pivotal week of Central Washington high school football. The crisp fall air and the roar of hometown crowds set the perfect stage for a slate of games that will test undefeated records, renew bitter historic rivalries, and shake up the regional standings across multiple classifications.

Here are the most highly anticipated matchups that every local fan needs to be tracking this week.

The Battle for the Bronze Shoe: 1A Chelan (2-0) @ 1A Cashmere (1-1)

Throw the records out when these two historic rivals take the field. The “Battle for the Bronze Shoe” is the absolute crown jewel of Central Washington high school football this week. Undefeated Chelan is riding a wave of massive momentum, but they are walking into a hostile environment against a Cashmere squad that is severely battle-tested. The Bulldogs’ only blemish is a competitive loss to the #1 ranked 1A team in the entire state. Expect the stands to be packed, the student sections to be in full force, and every single yard to be contested with fierce local pride.

2A Undefeated Showdown: East Valley (2-0) @ Toppenish (2-0)

When two perfect league opponents clash, the atmosphere is guaranteed to be electric. Both the Red Devils and the Wildcats have proven their mettle early, taking down the 4A Davis Pirates, a massive statement considering Davis sits two classifications higher than both programs. This game is going to be a heavy hitting, trench warfare battle to establish early dominance in the 2A ranks.

1B Top 25 Clash: Entiat (2-0) @ La Conner (2-0)

Entiat and La Conner are proving that the Central Washington 1B League delivers some of the most explosive action in the state. This is a premier MaxPreps Top 25 matchup, with the #22 Entiat Tigers looking to go on the road and upset the #17 La Conner Braves. Expect fireworks and high-octane offense as these two undefeated programs look to climb closer the top of the 1B mountain.

Small-School Battle: 2B Okanogan (1-1) @ 1A Cascade (2-0)

History and bad blood often make for the best football, and these former conference opponents are no strangers to each other. Okanogan is a certified 2B powerhouse, just a couple of years removed from back-to-back state titles. Their lone loss was a highly competitive scrap against Nooksack Valley, the #4 ranked 1A team in the state. They travel to face an undefeated Cascade squad in a test that will serve as a massive measuring stick for both proud programs.

2B Heavyweights: River View (1-1) @ Cle Elum-Roslyn (0-2)

Don’t let the records deceive you; this league game is a MaxPreps Top 20 clash between the #16 River View Panthers and the #18 Cle Elum-Roslyn Warriors. Cle Elum-Roslyn’s 0-2 start came at the hands of tough 1A opponents in absolute dogfights. They are hungry, tested, and desperate to defend their home turf against a tough River View squad, making this a crossroads game for both programs.

Honorable Mention: 1A Connell (1-1) @ 1A Kiona-Benton (2-0)

Rounding out a massive week of Central Washington high school football, this 1A league tilt has all the makings of a sleeper hit. Kiona-Benton wants to protect their perfect record and home field, while Connell is looking to secure a crucial early-season league victory on the road.

This is what fall in our region is all about—communities rallying behind their student-athletes for four quarters of pure grit.
